Facts about Spain

Discover Spain: An Unrivaled Tourist Destination
Spain is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world, with more than 83 million international tourists a year, making it the second most visited country after France. Its rich history, privileged climate, exquisite gastronomy and the warmth of its people make Spain an irresistible place for travelers from all over the world.
Located in southwestern Europe, Spain has a surprising geographical diversity. From the sunny beaches of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic to the mountains of the Pyrenees and the Sierra Nevada, the country offers landscapes to suit all tastes. Its territory also includes the Balearic Islands, with Ibiza and Mallorca as the mainstays of sun and beach tourism, and the Canary Islands, a subtropical paradise with breathtaking volcanic landscapes.
Charming Cities and Inexhaustible Culture
Spain is home to some of the most fascinating cities in Europe. Madrid, the vibrant capital, captivates with its culture, museums such as the Prado and the Reina Sofía, its lively nightlife and its emblematic Retiro Park. Barcelona, with its unmistakable modernist architecture by Gaudí, the Sagrada Familia and the Rambla, is a Mediterranean jewel that fuses art and modernity.
Andalusia is the cradle of flamenco and the most authentic reflection of the Arab heritage in Spain. Cities such as Seville, Granada and Cordoba are witnesses to a glorious past with the majestic Alhambra, the Great Mosque of Cordoba and the Giralda. Valencia, for its part, combines tradition and modernity with the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences and the famous Valencian paella.
In the north, Bilbao impresses with its avant-garde Guggenheim Museum, San Sebastián charms with its gastronomy and beaches, and Santiago de Compostela is the final destination of the famous Camino de Santiago, attracting pilgrims from all over the world.
Gastronomy: A Feast for the Senses
Spanish cuisine is a reflection of its cultural diversity. Tapas such as Spanish omelettes, croquettes and Iberian ham are a must on any visit. Paella on the Levantine coast, Andalusian gazpacho in the south, Galician-style octopus in Galicia and Asturian fabada in the north are just some of the regional dishes that delight travelers. In addition, Spain is one of the world's largest wine producers, with regions such as La Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Priorat offering internationally renowned wines.
Unique Festivals and Traditions
Spain is synonymous with festivities and joy. Events such as the April Fair in Seville, the Fallas in Valencia, San Fermín in Pamplona and the Tomatina in Buñol attract thousands of tourists every year. In addition, Holy Week is a celebration of great fervor in cities such as Malaga and Seville.
Accommodation Capacity: Hotels and Tourist Accommodation
Spain offers a wide and diverse range of accommodation to meet the needs of its visitors. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in March 2024, the country had 13,851 hotels open, with a total of 670,618 rooms available.
In addition to the traditional hotel offer, the rental of tourist accommodation has experienced remarkable growth in recent years. Platforms such as Airbnb, Booking.com and Vrbo together market around 305,136 tourist homes in Spain, which together offer approximately 1,545,368 places.
This increase in the supply of tourist accommodation reflects the sector's adaptability in meeting the growing demand from the more than 83 million tourists who visit Spain every year.
