The Islas Canarias: Volcanoes, Beaches and Otherworldly Landscapes

The Islas Canarias are a spectacle of nature; an archipelago where golden beaches, volcanic landscapes and lush forests create a unique destination. With spring-like weather all year round, these Atlantic islands offer a diversity that surprises every visitor.

Tenerife, the largest of the archipelago, is home to the imposing Teide, Spain's highest peak. Its National Park seems to be from another planet; its black sand beaches and its cliffs, such as those of Los Gigantes, take your breath away. Santa Cruz and La Laguna combine history and modernity, while the south of the island is perfect for relaxation and leisure.

Gran Canaria is known for its diverse landscapes. The Maspalomas Dunes, in the south, evoke the desert; Roque Nublo, in the interior, is a natural icon. In Las Palmas, Las Canteras beach and the Vegueta neighborhood reflect the essence of the island.

Lanzarote surprises with its volcanic beauty. The Timanfaya National Park, with its red and black earth, is a visual spectacle. The works of César Manrique, an artist who integrated architecture with nature, are present throughout the island.

Fuerteventura is synonymous with endless beaches and crystal-clear waters. Its arid landscapes and dunes are reminiscent of Africa. It is a paradise for windsurfing and kitesurfing, with places like Corralejo and Cofete that will make you fall in love.

La Palma, “the beautiful island”, is a refuge of unspoiled nature. Its laurel forests in the Caldera de Taburiente and its starry skies make it a paradise for hikers and astronomy lovers.

El Hierro and La Gomera, less touristy, are hidden gems. El Hierro is self-sustaining and full of unique landscapes. La Gomera, with its Garajonay National Park, is a haven of peace with traditions such as the “silbo gomero” or “Gomeran whistle”.

Canarian gastronomy is as varied as its landscapes. “Papas arrugadas con mojo” (wrinkled potatoes with mojo sauce), “gofio” (toasted cornmeal) and local cheeses are a must.

The Islas Canarias are sun, adventure and nature at its best. A destination that never ceases to amaze.
