Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes: Between volcanoes, mountains and the art of living
Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Alpes is an exceptionally rich region, both in terms of the diversity of its landscapes and the richness of its heritage. Situated in the heart of France, it stretches from the dormant volcanoes of the Auvergne to the majestic peaks of the Alps, offering a stark contrast between unspoilt nature and urban dynamism.
In the Auvergne region, lovers of wide open spaces will be delighted by the vast plateaux of the Cézallier, spectacular waterfalls and volcanic lakes such as Lake Pavin. The Chaîne des Puys, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is an invitation to contemplate and hike. Clermont-Ferrand, the birthplace of Michelin, combines modernity and tradition, and is an ideal base from which to explore this fascinating region.
Heading down to the Alps, ski resorts such as Chamonix, Megève and Val d'Isère attract winter sports enthusiasts from all over the world. In summer, the mountains become the perfect playground for hikers and cyclists. The lakes and rivers, such as Lake Annecy and the Rhône, offer a multitude of water sports activities and breathtaking panoramas.
The cities are not to be outdone Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, fascinates visitors with its traboules (narrow streets), its gastronomy and its Gallo-Roman history. Grenoble, a dynamic and innovative city, is also a major cultural centre. In Saint-Étienne, art and design take centre stage.
When it comes to gastronomy, the region is a paradise: famous cheeses such as Saint-Nectaire, internationally renowned wines such as the Beaujolais and Rhône Valley crus, charcuterie and sweet delicacies make up a rich and varied culinary heritage.
Whether you're looking for the serenity of nature, the hustle and bustle of cities or outdoor adventure, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes has something for everyone.
